Mic skype not working mac

I have a MacBook Air running Sierra version The Skype microphone keeps failing although it works perfectly on the system. Can somebody advise what is going on? Some days it works and some days it doesn't. My Macbookpro stopped allowing Skype to talk to my built in microphone.
